Glinka at the Beijing Design Triennial
At the “Good Guys” exhibition held on the margins of the first Beijing International Design Triennial (BIDT) from 28 September to 17 October, the wall covered with a Jakob Schlaepfer Glinka fabric attracted an especially large number of visitors, who wanted to have their photo taken in front of it, as the BIDT website describes:

The biggest lace carpet in the world
In connection with the exhibition “StGall – die Spitzengeschichte” (St Gallen – lace history) the world’s biggest carpet made of lace has been laid out in the customer area of the St Gallen cantonal bank. The eye-catching work produced by Jakob Schlaepfer using inkjet technology features motifs found in hand-made lace from the collection of the nearby textile museum. It is 24 meters long and 4 meters wide and there are no repeating patterns as there are in other carpets of this size.

Costumes for Angels and Devils
The costumes of the singers and dancers in «Mikael», a monumental operatic spectacle about the fall of Lucifer performed as part of the annual Origen Festival of Culture, were designed by Jakob Schlaepfer. The work was premiered at Riom Castle on 16 July, and is being performed nine more times up until 13 August. www.origen.ch

Paintings that sing in the Zürich Opera House
At the first performance of Mozart’s early work “Il re pastore” in a production by Grischa Asagaroff designed by Luigi Perego the senses are drawn irresistibly to the sumptuous costumes: they feature pastoral scenes by Fragonard und Boucher, which Schlaepfer has printed on specially prepared fabric in a complex process faithfully reproducing every detail, so that the singing actors can “be justifiably described as moving paintings”. Schlaepfer’s artistry and skill are so exciting, that the copyright holders of the paintings – British and American museums – are already thinking of exhibiting the pictures along with the costumes.
